Photojournalism
by Ben Krueger
To capture the imagery that embodies nostalgia, I approached the topic locationally. Instead of limiting myself to Maplewood and South Orange, NJ, I ventured to the Jersey Shore and Disney World in Orlando, FL on my hunt for nostalgic photos. Asking questions like, 'What does it mean to be a kid?' or 'Where do kids go, and what do they do there?', helped me focus my images on some intriguing people, places, and things. I found that even the most abstract subjects can incite nostalgia, like a sunrise, an old car, or an iconic image. (Keeping with the theme of nostalgia, and building upon Kayley's article on old mediums of media, I shot most of the project on 35mm film).

The iconic AT-AT Walker from 1980's Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back looms above, as large as life.
A moment, engulfed in bubbles (an element of nostalgia), that captures two instantly recognizable symbols of Disney – Cinderella's Castle and Mickey Mouse's ears.
Because what doesn't spark nostalgia like: balloons...
classic cars...
Disney characters...
...and dunk tanks?
